Discussion Board Week 5

Q Instructions Your Identifying Physical Characteristics assignment is due next week! That assignment asks you to experiment with the USGS National Biogeographic Map (Links to an external site.) So let’s start experimenting! • Discussion Board Post #1 (Thursday) o What animal species might function well on the site you are investigating? o Does the information from this site match what you observed on site? Why or why not? o Then think about climate change, do you think are these plant or animal species at risk? How so? o Also if you know of LOCAL resources (State or County) to help identify and manage local plant and animal species, please provide link or uploads. There may be others in the class that could utilize this information! • Discussion Board Post #2 (Saturday) o Respond to one of your peers. What similarities and differences exist between your sites? What climate change management approaches do you recommend to your peer? o For the reply, all students are required to respond to at least one peer. o Grad students are required to respond to two peers. Submission Details Click on "Reply" below to make your post. I recommend drafting your post in Word (or another document) first and then copying and pasting it into the discussion post. That way you will not lose any of your work on accident. Grading Criteria This discussion is worth 10 points. Please see the "Assignments and Point Value" chart in the syllabus for details.

In the Santa Cruz mountains, many species have been doing well as the mountains provide a great ecosystem. The one native animal that is not doing well is the Santa Cruz Puma’s (California Mountain Lion). The good thing for the Santa Cruz Puma is that the land I am doing my site on is the perfect habitat for them to thrive. With having family live across from the site parcel since the 1970’s, we have encountered a variety of wildlife up here, including an older puma that passed away in our back yard.
